Paris Saint-Germain is currently awaiting official word from Kylian Mbappe regarding his potential departure this summer, although they have already compiled a list of potential replacements, according to sources at 90min.
The looming possibility of Mbappe joining Real Madrid, with his contract expiring at the end of the season, has heightened speculation. However, no concrete agreements have been reached at this stage. Mbappe has made it clear that he will inform PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi before announcing any decision about his future.
Mbappe is also considering the possibility of entering the summer as a free agent and delaying his decision on his future until after representing France at Euro 2024 and the home Olympics. This desire has been communicated clearly to both Real Madrid and PSG. PSG has granted Mbappe permission to pursue this path if he chooses to renew his contract.
Despite Mbappe’s current deal expiring at the end of the season, having declined a one-year extension last summer, PSG may lose him without receiving a transfer fee. However, Mbappe has foregone €70m to €80m in loyalty bonuses and other incentives as part of a comprehensive agreement with PSG, ensuring the club is financially protected in the event of his departure.
Sources have indicated to 90min that this financial compensation will be instrumental in financing a replacement for Mbappe if necessary.
PSG has a historical interest in Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, with talks between Al-Khelaifi and Rashford’s representatives occurring in 2022 and early last summer. However, PSG suspected they were being used as leverage in Rashford’s contract negotiations with United.
Rashford fits the profile PSG is looking for, and they may pursue him again this summer if the opportunity arises, but only if they receive assurances from Rashford that he genuinely desires to join PSG.
While there have been rumors of Rashford wanting to leave Manchester United amid a challenging 2023/24 season, there is no concrete evidence suggesting he currently intends to depart Old Trafford. However, with changes expected at United due to INEOS’s incoming ownership and a potential review of manager Erik ten Hag’s position, Rashford’s perspective could shift.
PSG also has an interest in Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, who recently extended his contract until 2026 with a release clause exceeding €100m. Despite Osimhen’s previous experience in Ligue 1 with Lille, PSG believes he is more likely to move to the Premier League this summer.
RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko is another long-term target for PSG. The 20-year-old’s contract includes a €50m release clause that becomes active in the summer, and there is an anticipation that he will depart Leipzig in 2024.
