Reno Omokri, a former media assistant to former President Goodluck Jonathan, has urged Nigerians not to hold President Bola Tinubu responsible for the nation’s recent economic difficulties and high dollar exchange rate.

Speaking on Sunday on his verified X page, Omokri asserted that part of Nigeria’s suffering was brought on by the populace’s preference for imported goods over those made in the country.

The sociopolitical activist stated that the US dollar’s exchange rate will not decrease unless Nigerians decide to buy things made domestically.

Omokri pointed out: “You surf the Internet using MTN. Your hair is adorned with a $250 wig sourced from an Indian temple, labeled as ‘Brazilian’ hair in Nigeria. Your attire hails from Italy, shoes from Spain, breakfast consists of Quaker oats from England and South African eggs. Meanwhile, you watch DSTV from South Africa, yet you’re casting curses on Bola Tinubu for the Naira’s condition?”

“You’re contributing to the Naira’s problem with your use of MTN data. The high dollar rate won’t budge! If you’re not supporting local production or consumption but venting on social media, then you haven’t grasped the Naira’s floating status.

“Throw tantrums all you want, but the dollar won’t drop until you embrace Nigerian goods and services.

“Unless your money circulates within Nigeria’s economy, your Naira won’t gain purchasing power. This is economics, not propaganda. Ride with Innoson, communicate with Glo, construct with Dangote, and dine with Nasco.”
